Friends of the Museum
The Friends of the Museum was formed several years after the Claremont Town Council applied for recognition of the Claremont Museum as a Municipal Museum under the Museums Act of Western Australia. Under the leadership of the inaugural Curator of the Claremont Museum, Sally-Ann Hasluck, OAM, a community group dedicated to supporting and promoting the role and activities of the Museum was established. The Friends’ remains an active group today.
The Friends’ Objectives are:
- to stimulate, sustain interest in, support and promote the Freshwater Bay Museum, and to enhance its cultural significance
- to preserve the historical character of the district
- to develop a sense of identity with the district through an appreciation of its history
- to affiliate or associate with any other body or society having similar or like objects in relation to museums generally
ACTIVITIES AND MEMBER BENEFITS
Over the years, the Friends have arranged lectures, museum and heritage related visits and other social activities both for its members and for the wider community. More recently the Friends group has focused its efforts on supporting the projects and functions of the Museum, both financially and in kind. The group has also played a role in promoting and advocating on behalf of the Museum in a variety of forums as appropriate. Two members of the Friends sit on the Museum Committee of the Town of Claremont.
The Friends group prepares and distributes a newsletter to inform members of past and future activities. The latest newsletter can be downloaded below:
